Albert Park Grand Prix Circuit

The Albert Park Grand Prix Circuit is popular for its street circuit in Melbourne, Australia. It hosted the Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix in 1996 and is among the most thrilling races on the F1 calendar. The circuit runs around the scenic Albert Park Lake and it features high-speed straights and challenging corners. Thus, providing a thrilling experience for drivers and visitors alike.

When Was The Track Built?

The Albert Park Circuit was there since the 1950s, but it was rebuilt in 1996 with several changes like the direction of travel was reversed, and the Jaguar Curve looped off and replaced with the Sports Centre Esses. The track was designed using existing roads around Albert Park, mainly Aughtie Drive and Lakeside Drive. A small section also runs through the Lakeside Stadium’s car park, making it a unique street circuit. If you want, you can even drive on these tracks yourself for a fun experience!

When Was Its First Grand Prix Held?

The first modern Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix was held on March 10, 1996, at Albert Park. The 58-lap race was won by Damon Hill who was driving a Williams-Renault. It marked the start of Melbourne's tradition of opening every F1 season. The thrilling atmosphere and enormous fans, make this one of the most looked-after events in the Formula 1 calendar.
