Baku City Circuit - Introduction

The Baku City Circuit is in Azerbaijan capital city, Baku. It is a standout circuit on the Formula 1 schedule, with a combination of swift straights and challenging city corners. It was opened in 2016 and is a 6.003 km anti-clockwise street circuit. This was designed by world-famous designer Hermann Tilke. It provides a dramatic combination of broad boulevards and narrow streets, featuring a constricted 7.6-meter section that connects through Baku's ancient Old City. The layout of the circuit tests drivers’ speed and accuracy.

When Was The Track Built?

The Baku City Circuit was constructed in 2016, exclusively created to welcome Formula 1's newest city-centre street race in the capital of Azerbaijan.

When Was Its First Grand Prix Held?

The first Formula 1 event on the Baku City Circuit was held in 2016 under the banner of the European Grand Prix. This presented Azerbaijan as part of the F1 calendar for the first time, taking drivers and spectators around the challenging street course in the middle of Baku. For the following season in 2017, the race was rebranded as the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, which saw Daniel Ricciardo win.
