The Circuit of the Americas was built in 2011 and officially opened in October 2012, just in time to host its first Formula 1 United States Grand Prix.
When Was Its First Grand Prix Held?
The Circuit of the Americas (COTA) hosted its first-ever Formula 1 Grand Prix on November 18, 2012, the first time that the United States Grand Prix returned to American territory in five years. The occasion was important because it brought to the U.S. an F1 circuit that would fulfil the highest possible standards of motor sport. The race was won by Lewis Hamilton, who was racing for McLaren, and came out on top after a hard-fought battle with Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull. This victory was Hamilton's final one for McLaren prior to his switch to Mercedes during the next season.
